I created this classic-ring-with-a-twist with a combination of lost wax techniques and traditional metalwork using sheet and wire.
The design of the Stellwagen resonates with the passage above from a poem by American poet Mary Oliver. It inspired me to craft a playful, off-center composition featuring a tide line, a breaching humpback whale, and barnacles.
The humpback takes shape in a colored spinel, the barnacles in a rhythmic texture of gold beads. Finally, a string of pearls represents the ocean’s surface.
